You’re Either a Missionary or a Mission Field

When it comes to following Jesus, there’s no neutral ground. You’re either being reached—or reaching others. You’re either someone in need of transformation—or someone carrying it to the world around you.
You’re either a missionary—or a mission field.
And at different points in life, we’re meant to be both. But the tension is this: some people stay a mission field far too long. Others rush out to be a missionary before they’re really equipped. The key is knowing where you are right now—and being honest about what Jesus is calling you to do next.
When You’re the Mission Field
There’s no shame in being the one who needs healing, growth, or transformation. In fact, every missionary starts here.
Being the mission field means you’re letting Jesus deal with the deep things. The brokenness. The fear. The sin patterns. The identity issues. You’re letting truth rewire your thinking and letting grace rebuild your life. You’re being discipled, challenged, and restored.
If you’re in this place, lean in and embrace your season.
Don’t try to skip it. Don’t fake it till you make it. Let Jesus fully transform your heart. Let others speak into your life. Be taught. Be corrected. Be discipled.
Because the kind of missionary who makes a real difference is the one who’s first been transformed by the very gospel they’re sharing.
When It’s Time to Be the Missionary
Some people stay in “receive mode” forever. They want more teaching, more ministry, more prayer—but never step out in obedience to share what they’ve already been given.
But the gospel was never meant to stop with you. At some point, it has to move through you.
Being a missionary doesn’t necessarily mean hopping on a plane. It means living a missional life wherever you are—seeing your workplace, your neighborhood, your church, your city as the place God’s called you to shine.
It’s making disciples, loving the hard-to-love, speaking truth, living boldly, and showing people what Jesus is really like through your everyday life.
If you’ve been following Jesus for a while and know the truth, it might be time to stop soaking it all in and start giving it away.
Don’t Confuse Readiness with Perfection
You don’t have to “arrive” to live missionally. You just have to be available.
God’s not looking for polished perfection—He’s looking for surrendered people who will go where He sends them and speak what He tells them. Even if it’s uncomfortable. Even if it’s inconvenient.
You’ll keep growing as you go. In fact, some of the deepest transformation happens as you begin to step out and serve others.
So… Which One Are You?
Take an honest look at where you are. Are you still the mission field—needing to be healed, discipled, and grounded in truth? Or is it time to shift and become the missionary—carrying the gospel to others with boldness and clarity?
Both are necessary. Both are holy. But don’t confuse the season you’re in. Don’t cling to comfort if Jesus is calling you to step out. And don’t rush into mission if your foundation still needs to be rebuilt.
A Place to Be Transformed—And Sent
At the School of Transformation, we’re here for both.
Whether you need to spend time being healed, restored, and discipled—or you're ready to be trained, equipped, and sent—this is a place where transformation happens and callings are awakened.
We’re not raising up spectators. We’re raising up people who live for Jesus, wherever He sends them.
